Five steps to optimize your website for mobile

With a growing number of customers accessing the web from smartphones and tablets, the mobile experience should be a priority for your business’s website. Use these tips to optimize your site – and capture local customers.

1. Update the design

Ensure your site has responsive web design, which means your site can automatically adapt to the screen resolution and size of different devices. This provides users with an optimal viewing experience no matter what device they are on.

2. Put critical content first

What are your customers looking for when they visit your website on a mobile device? They usually want the most important information about your business first, so put your phone number, address, and a list of services and products at the top of the homepage. Add a menu button for quick navigation to help users easily find the information they need. Mobile searches tend to lag behind desktop searches in generating conversions, so be sure your site readily enables users to take further steps toward a purchase. Apart from providing a simple and efficient mobile shopping experience, make sure emails and phone numbers are clickable, allowing mobile users to contact you easily.

3. Reduce load times

Mobile networks tend to be slower, and users can be charged for the data they use on smartphones or tablets. You can include content that requires high bandwidth, like videos and slideshows, on your mobile website. But keep it off your homepage and other landing pages in order to create a faster, simpler experience for your users.

4. Get on Google Maps

You can verify or claim your business listing for free online and add your URL. When people use Google Maps to find your business on their phones, they can click straight through to your site.

5. Check out your review profiles

When trying to find a business on the go, many mobile users turn to review sites and apps such as Yelp or TripAdvisor. Claim your business on these sites to include accurate contact information including your website.
